My main focus was on the D'Addario NYXL, a string set I've found to be exceptional. The test would determine whether this preference extends across guitar types.

Testing Methodology: Strat vs. Tele

To ensure a fair comparison, I decided to test the NYXL strings on both my Stratocaster and Telecaster simultaneously. This approach would help in identifying any significant differences in feel or tone between the two guitar types.

The other string sets – Elixir Nanoweb, Ernie Ball Cobalt, and the additional NYXL gauges – would be tested exclusively on the Stratocaster. This consistent setup enhances the reliability of individual brand comparisons.

The comparison would evaluate factors such as durability, tone, feel, and longevity. Detailed notes and sound samples would be meticulously documented for an objective analysis.

String Gauge Experimentation

My usual preference is for a 9-42 gauge, however for this test, I incorporated 9-46 gauge sets. This allowed for a direct comparison of how the heavier gauge affected the overall playing experience.

The heavier gauge testing provided valuable insight into how string tension and tone might be altered. This helps in determining which gauge would best suit different playing styles and musical genres.

Each string brand demonstrated unique characteristics. The NYXLs showcased excellent durability and tone, and while the Ernie Ball Cobalts were also good, they didn't match the NYXLs' overall performance.
